Winston Reid has credited belief for West Ham's late win over Sunderland at the London Stadium.

The Hammers dominated on home turf, but found a Sunderland side defending resolutely and believing they had done enough to secure a point as the minutes ticked down.

But it was not to be for David Moyes' men as West Ham's pressure eventually paid off and Reid was the hero.

The New Zealand international took advantage of a corner in injury time to turn well and hit a shot which beat Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

It was no more than West Ham deserved after Dimitri Payet saw an effort saved from Pickford and also hit the post earlier in the match.

Reid feels West Ham reaped the rewards of keeping believing they would eventually make the breakthrough.

"Obviously after the period we have been in it was so important to get the three points", the defender said on Sky Sports.

"We played well in the first half an hour and they got back into it.

"Second half we didn't start well, it was a bit back and fourth but we were fortunate at the end I was able to put one in", Reid continued.

"We kept going until the end and believed we could get something out of it.

"We just need to get injured players back and get the squad fully fit", he added.

West Ham have now picked up ten points from their opening nine Premier League matches.
