Rangers outcast Joey Barton has wished the club all the best in their Scottish League Cup semi-final tie against Celtic at Hampden Park this afternoon.

Barton is currently serving a club suspension following a training ground bust-up with team-mate Andy Halliday; he has also been charged by the Scottish Football Association of breaching rules relating to betting on football matches.

His career at the club looks to be all but over – however Barton is still keen to see Rangers beat Celtic today.

The 34-year-old midfielder wrote on Twitter: "All the very best for today Rangers."

Ironically, Barton's last game as a Rangers player came against Celtic, as the Gers lost 5-1 at Parkhead in a Scottish Premiership game.

The Gers are keen to taste revenge against their fierce rivals at Hampden, but start as firm underdogs, with Brendan Rodgers' Celtic team having been impressive on the domestic front this term.

Barton signed a two-year contract with Rangers last summer after snubbing a new deal at Burnley.

He was confident of dominating Scottish football, but his adventure north of the border is now firmly in trouble.
