Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho believes he simply must win trophies at Old Trafford over the course of his three-year contract if he is to be considered a success.

The Portuguese, who has won trophies wherever he has managed, saw his reign at Chelsea fall apart last season and was sacked by the Blues in December after a terrible run of form.

Manchester United appointed Mourinho in the summer to replace Louis van Gaal and he put pen to paper on a contract running until 2019.

He splashed the cash in the summer transfer window and is firmly of the opinion that he simply must bring silverware to Old Trafford over the course of his stay.

"I have a three-year contract here and if I am here for three years the people will know that I have given everything to the club and that I am a professional and dedicated coach who gives himself 24 hours a day to United", Mourinho was quoted as saying by ITV.

"But if, at the end of the three years, I don't win a single piece of silverware for them, they will say 'great guy, good coach, we like him, but we feel nothing special about him'."

This afternoon Mourinho takes his Manchester United side to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea for the first time since he left the Blues last year.

He is expected to receive a good reception from the Chelsea faithful after regularly winning trophies for the club.

Mourinho delivered three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three League Cups while at Chelsea.
