Mark Warburton thinks Rangers fans saw their players be "brave" against Celtic in the Gers' 1-0 Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat at Hampden.

Rangers started as underdogs in the game and Celtic quickly started to control the tie, although they could find no way to breach the Gers backline.

Indeed, with good goalkeeping from Rangers custodian Matt Gilks, the Bhoys were forced to wait until just three minutes from time to score the game's only goal, with Moussa Dembele striking for Brendan Rodgers' men.

Rangers have now lost both Old Firm clashes this season, one in the league and one in the League Cup, but Warburton sees positives, not least in how brave his team were.

Stressing the importance of forthcoming fixtures against St Johnstone and Kilmarnock, both at Ibrox, Warburton told Rangers TV: "We just lost a semi-final here at Hampden to Celtic so you can imagine the emotion but at the same time we have two very important league games coming up.

"What we can’t have is a hangover from today and we have to look at today’s performance and there are many positives to come out of it.

"Don’t take that statement wrong but there are many positives to come from it and the second-half was very open.

"We are disappointed as a group because we went too long too often but that could have been the emotion of the game and there were some tired legs and you saw some players cramping up", the Englishman continued.

"I hope it was evident that things have changed since the last time, I hope you saw players being brave and every team can improve", Warburton added.

Rangers now quickly switch their attention back towards the Scottish Premiership, where they sit in fifth spot after nine games.
