Gary Cahill has hailed Chelsea's 4-0 win over Manchester United in the Premier League, explaining the Blues dominated the contest against the Red Devils from the start to the finish.

Chelsea made a roaring start at Stamford Bridge as they scored after just 34 seconds. The ball was played through towards Pedro Rodriguez, splitting the Manchester United defence, but despite defenders closing on the ball, David de Gea rushed out – and Pedro was left with a simple finish as he emerged with the ball.

It was soon 2-0, when a corner was flicked on by Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia and fell to Gary Cahill, who hit a thumping shot into the back of the net.

Chelsea were dominant and Manchester United did not look like getting back into the game before half time.

The Blues then thought they had made it 3-0 just minutes after the second half started, but Diego Costa's effort, which hit the back of the net, was ruled out for offside

A third did arrive just past the hour mark, when Eden Hazard was involved in a good interchange with Nemanja Matic and steered his shot between Daily Blind and Chris Smalling, into the back of the net.

In the 70th minute it was 4-0, Chelsea rampant, as N'Golo Kante surged forward, beating Smalling and smacking a shot into the corner of the net.

It ended 4-0, with Jose Mourinho's return to Stamford Bridge an unhappy one.

For Cahill, Chelsea's performance was utterly dominant and he told Sky Sports: "It means, first and foremost, winning is the most important, but the performance which went with it was fantastic.

"I thought we dominated from the first to the last to be honest.

"I'm delighted to get a goal because it was a decent moment in the game, it put us 2-0 up and it's not easy to come back from that in the Premier League.

"The performance was the most pleasing thing I think.

"We've stopped letting in goals and are getting wins, so naturally it breeds confidence.

"You can see we're playing with confidence."
