Phil Babb has expressed his worries over new Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius’ ability to deal with set-pieces, following the Reds’ 2-1 win over West Brom in the Premier League on Saturday.

The German custodian, who was roped in by Liverpool from Mainz in the summer to provide competition for Simon Mignolet, missed the start of the season with a hand injury.

Karius returned to action and made his Liverpool debut in their 3-0 win over Derby County in an EFL Cup game on 20th September.

The 23-year-old has since made five appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside giants, managing two clean sheets, as Mignolet has been dropped to the bench.

However, Babb feels Karius’ indecisiveness while dealing with set-piece situations is an area of concern for Liverpool, which was evident from the goal West Brom scored from a corner at Anfield.

“I don't want to be too critical, but I think there's a little feeling around Karius now, some of his judgement calls, certainly coming out to claim crosses, his decision making is wrong”, he explained after the game on LFC TV.

“That's what led to this [the West Brom goal].”

Karius, who is contracted with Liverpool until 2021, is yet to earn a senior cap for Germany, but has represented the nation up to Under-21 level.
