Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer believes that Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius is making misjudgements during games because he is bored, due to Jurgen Klopp's team dominating possession.

Karius was snapped up by Klopp in the summer from Bundesliga outfit Mainz and was tipped to start as Liverpool's number 1, but saw himself sidelined with a hand injury in pre-season.

Following his recovery, he has dislodged Simon Mignolet between the sticks at Anfield, though his performances of late have been questioned.

And McAteer feels that Karius may be losing concentration within games as he has little to do, with Liverpool dominating possession of the football and chances.

The ex-Liverpool star said on LFC TV following the Reds' 2-1 win over West Brom: "You just feel Karius is making misjudgements sometimes because he's not involved in the game.

"It's like sometimes he's bored a little bit", McAteer added.

It remains to be seen whether Karius will keep his place in the team on Tuesday night when Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup.

But boss Klopp could opt to give Simon Mignolet a run out to keep him match sharp, after a period on the bench.
