Former Liverpool defender Phil Babb believes Reds manager Jurgen Klopp will need to make changes to his team to play a high tempo game against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

The Merseyside giants, who are known for their pressing style of play under Klopp, beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions.

With the Spurs game due to be played just three days after the clash with the Baggies, Babb feels the lack of recovery time may prompt Klopp to make changes to his starting line-up to keep up with his pressing style of play.

The 45-year-old went on to add that the likes of Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge, Marko Grujic and Lucas Leiva, who have been sparingly used by the German tactician this season, might feature against Tottenham at Anfield.

“I think you have to [make changes] because the majority of his first selection played 90 minutes [against West Brom]”, Babb said on LFC TV after the win over West Brom.

“So there isn't really enough recovery [time] if you want to put in a high tempo game.

“I can imagine probably the likes of Sturridge or Origi starting up top, Grujic might get a look in, Lucas as well, so I imagine there might be three or four changes.”

Liverpool beat Derby County 3-0 in the previous round of the EFL Cup in late September.
