Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy feels the Blues will find playing Southampton a tougher task than the clash they have just had against Manchester United.

Antonio Conte’s men, who are up against the Saints at the weekend, thrashed Manchester United 4-0 in the Premier League on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

Goals from Pedro Rodriguez, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante enabled Chelsea to ruin Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge as the London outfit moved up to fourth spot in the league.

On the other hand, Southampton held table-toppers Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium in Sunday’s other Premier League fixture, putting in an impressive shift.

And Cundy, who turned out for Chelsea between 1988 and 1992, thinks Southampton will pose a stronger challenge to his former club than Manchester United managed.

“Listen, we are at Southampton next weekend, right?” he said on Chelsea TV after the match.

“Let me tell you now, this game is easier than what we can expect next weekend because they are a very well organised, really hard working, disciplined team.

“Make no mistake, that's going to be a tough game.”

Chelsea, who have now won their last three Premier League games, are currently just one point adrift of top spot, while Southampton presently find themselves in eighth place.
