Vincent Janssen needs to score for Tottenham Hotspur "quickly", former Spurs striker Clive Allen believes.

Spurs splashed out €20m to sign Janssen from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the summer transfer window after being impressed with a campaign which saw the striker top scorer in the Eredivise and break through to the senior Netherlands squad.

But despite receiving regular game time at White Hart Lane, with an injury to Harry Kane thrusting him into the limelight, Janssen has not netted in the Premier League.

He was dropped to the bench for Spurs' away Premier League fixture at Bournemouth on Saturday, but did come on just after the hour mark in the 0-0 draw, with Tottenham searching for a goal.

Allen thinks that Janssen's all-round game is in good nick – however the former Spurs hitman does feel the Dutchman needs to find the back of the net sooner rather than later.

He was quoted as saying by Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad: "Of course he needs to score quickly, but his game so far is fine.

"He pleases me very much."

Janssen has scored just once for Tottenham, that goal arriving in an EFL Cup drubbing of lower league minnows Gillingham.

And the pressure is building on the Dutchman the longer he goes without netting in the Premier League for Mauricio Pochettino's men.

He could though score again in the EFL Cup, if he can strike against Liverpool on Tuesday night.
