Rangers defender Lee Hodson thinks his side can count themselves unlucky to have lost to Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-final clash between the two teams, while he also believes there are "a lot of positives" to take from the game.

Mark Warburton's men were out to avenge a 5-1 defeat to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership in September, but struggled to take control of the game at Hampden.

Celtic were the dominant force, but could not turn that dominance into goals and were forced to wait until three minutes from time to seal the win, when Moussa Dembele struck.

Rangers have now lost twice to Celtic in the last two months, but Hodson feels that Sunday's loss was "unlucky".

And he sees many positives to take for the Gers, who are next in action on Wednesday night when they host St Johnstone at Ibrox in a Premiership fixture.

Hodson told his club's site: "We put up a fight and we fought until the end, we were unlucky that they scored in the 87th minute and it’s disappointing but we have to get our heads up because we have an important week ahead.

"But we have to take the positives out of the game and we have a big week ahead of us with St Johnstone on Wednesday night and then Kilmarnock on Saturday.

"We have to concentrate on those two games and try to get six points", he continued.

"There are a lot of positives from that game though and we need to take them into Wednesday night."

Rangers are currently sat in fifth spot in the Premiership table after taking 15 points from their opening nine games.

The Gers will be desperate to bounce back to winning ways on Wednesday evening.
