Former Celtic star Tom Boyd believes Moussa Dembele has already proved that he is a big-game player, following the forward’s performance in the 1-0 win over Rangers in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Sunday, and stressed that there is plenty of room for improvement given his tender years.

The Frenchman, who joined Celtic from Fulham in the summer, scored the only goal of the game at Hampden in the 87th minute to help his side reach the final of the domestic cup competition at the expense of their fierce rivals.

Dembele scored a hat-trick in the season’s first Old Firm derby last month, with the 20-year-old also netting a brace in the 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League in late September.

The youngster, who found the back of the net against Rangers with a deft back-heel last weekend, scored a spectacular overhead kick against the Citizens.

And Boyd thinks not only scoring goals, but scoring stunning goals in important games, proves that Dembele is really a big-game player.

“He has proven that already and the goals he has scored….”, he told Celtic TV, when asked if he thinks Dembele is a big-game player.

“It’s the type of goals he is scoring as well, a terrific hat-trick he got in the first derby game, the overhead kick against Manchester City and the back-heel in [Sunday’s] game.

“He knows, he’s aware and he’s comfortable with his body positions.

"He’s not trying to contour himself in trying to put it round to his favourite foot.

"And he’s so young too.”

Dembele has thus far scored 14 goals in 20 appearances in all competitions for Celtic.
