Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger thinks Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reaped the rewards of his work on the training pitch after turning in a superb performance in the Gunners' 2-0 win over Reading in the EFL Cup.

Oxlade-Chamberlain scored both Arsenal's goals at the Emirates Stadium as they made short work of Jaap Stam's Championship outfit.

He opened the scoring for the Gunners in the 33rd minute as he surged into the box and sent a fierce shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Reading did almost equalise when a deflected effort from Callum Harriott went onto the roof of the net.

The second period saw Arsenal completely dominate and Oxlade-Chamberlain's second goal in the 78th minute, killed off any lingering Reading hopes of getting back into the game.
