Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen has explained that although he was happy to score against Liverpool, he was left disappointed with his side losing 2-1 at Anfield in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old, who joined Spurs from Eredivisie outfit AZ Alkmaar in the summer, dispatched a 76th minute penalty after Daniel Sturridge’s brace put the Reds 2-0 up in the EFL Cup game.

It was just Janssen’s second goal for Tottenham, with his previous also coming from the spot in the domestic cup competition against Gillingham last month.

And the Dutch striker, who has thus far made 14 appearances in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s team, insisted that he experienced mixed emotions after Spurs’ loss against Liverpool.

“Yes, of course”, he told Spurs TV, when asked if he was happy to score against the Reds.

“For a striker it’s always nice to score, but in the end I’m disappointed with the loss of course.

“I think we could have got something better out of the game.”

His present contract with the north London outfit runs until the summer of 2020.
