Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri is unsure about his future at the club as he admits that he needs to play more football.

The Italian goalkeeper was Leeds’ hero last night when he made three fantastic saves during the penalty shootout to take Leeds to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup at the expense of Norwich City.

However, it has only his third appearance of the season and his previous two outings for Leeds this term were also in the EFL Cup, which means he is yet to play a league game under Garry Monk.

New signing Rob Green is the Leeds manager’s preferred choice between the sticks and while he admits Leeds are an important club in his career, Silvestri is not sure about his long term future at the club because of a lack of game time.

The 25-year-old Italian told BBC Radio Leeds: “Leeds are a big team for my career.

“I think this for me is very important, but the problem now is I need to play [more].

“If nothing changes here, I don’t know what will happen.”

Silvestri was first choice last season at Elland Road, but things looked bleak for him in pre-season, when Monk sent the Italian back from their pre-season preparations in Ireland.
