Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri admits that he did put in work before his side's EFL Cup clash last night to study Norwich City’s penalty takers, but insists keeping out spot-kicks is still a far from easy task.

The Italian goalkeeper made three saves during Leeds’ penalty shootout win against Norwich which helped the Whites to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

The 26-year-old turned out to be the hero for Leeds after the scores were level at 2-2 with Norwich after 120 minutes of football and Silvestri was pleased to help his side get over the line in the last 16 clash.

The goalkeeper told BBC Radio Leeds: “I am happy and I have worked hard for this.”

Silvestri revealed that he did his homework before the game on the Norwich penalty takers, but admits that on the pitch most goalkeepers go by their instincts during shootouts as most times they are a gamble.

“I had an idea as before the game as we watched the penalties but it is difficult because you might think that ‘I need to dive the other way’.

“When you are there you go by your instincts; the penalty shootouts are difficult like roulette.”

Silvestri has made three appearances for Leeds this season, but all of them came in the EFL Cup and he is yet to play in the Championship under Garry Monk.
