St. Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has explained that his side were disappointed at not being able to bag the full three points against Rangers, following their 1-1 draw in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

The Saints started brightly and took a fifth minute lead through Blair Alston before Joel Garner equalised for the Gers off a header in the 37th minute.

Although the visitors looked the better team after the break, they failed make their dominance count and had to be satisfied with a point.

And Wright, who admitted that playing at Ibrox is never an easy proposition, however, felt his side could have won their Scottish Premiership contest against Rangers.

“It was a good start and an excellent performance”, he was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

“But we’re disappointed not to get all three points, particularly on the second half showing.

"We had a few good chances and I was pleased with performance.

“It’s never easy coming here. We’re happy to take a point but we could have taken all three.

"We knew we’d stay above Rangers with a positive result.

“We’re content with the return but there are no prizes given out so we’re not going to get carried away with it.”

St Johnstone are a lofty third in the Premiership standings while Rangers are just fifth. However, only two points separates the two teams.

Rangers play Kilmarnock on Saturday, while St Johnstone play host to Partick Thistle.
