Rangers boss Mark Warburton has praised Joe Garner’s aerial abilities, following the striker’s impressive performance in his side’s 1-1 draw with St. Johnstone in a Scottish Premiership fixture on Wednesday night.

The Gers, who headed into the game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Celtic in a Scottish League Cup semi-final last weekend, found themselves behind as early as the fifth minute at Ibrox, courtesy of Blair Alston’s goal.

Garner then headed home in the 37th minute to equalise for Rangers, but Warburton’s side failed to add to their tally and were held to a draw by the visitors.

And the manager, who stated that he was impressed with Garner’s heading abilities at both ends of the pitch, insisted that the striker deserved his goal against St. Johnstone.

“Joe is very strong aerially, he is not a six foot two giant of a centre-forward but he has tremendous spring, he is very brave and his technique is good too”, Warburton told Rangers TV.

“You saw his header and his defensive header before that as well so he is very useful in both boxes.

"He worked hard tonight and deserved his goal so I am pleased for him.”

Garner, who joined Rangers from Preston North End on a three-year deal in the summer, has thus far scored two goals in eight appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants.
