Former Leeds United star Noel Whelan has expressed his excitement after the Whites drew Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

Garry Monk’s team, who are one of two Championship sides left in the competition, beat Norwich City on penalties in the previous round of the domestic cup competition, following a 2-2 draw at the end of extra time at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Leeds will now face Premier League giants Liverpool at Anfield in the week commencing 28th November, with the Reds edging out Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the fourth round of the EFL Cup in another game on Tuesday night.

And Whelan, who is relishing the prospect of his former team playing at Anfield, believes the dream of winning the EFL Cup is still on for Leeds.

“Got to say as an ex-player I always loved playing at Anfield, it's exciting for us all. The dream is still on”, he tweeted.
