Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been charged by the FA with misconduct for his comments about referee Anthony Taylor ahead of his side’s trip to Liverpool last week.

While Manchester United earned a point at Anfield last week, Mourinho’s comments about Taylor being under pressure before the game have come back to haunt him.

The FA launched an enquiry into the matter last week and English football’s governing body have decided to charge the Portuguese with misconduct for his comments.

The Manchester United manager has until Monday to respond to FA’s charge, before they take any decision on any punishment which could be dished out to Mourinho.

A statement on the FA’s official website read: “Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been charged with misconduct, in respect of comments he made relating to the appointed match referee prior to the Liverpool FC v Manchester United FC fixture on Monday 17 October 2016.

“It is alleged his comments were improper and/or brought the game into disrepute contrary to FA Rule E3(1).

“Mr Mourinho has until 6pm on Monday 31 October 2016 to respond to the charge.”

Mourinho has previously fallen foul of FA rules and has been hit with charges by English football's governing body in the past.

It remains to be seen what punishment the Manchester United manager might be given.
