Former England winger Chris Waddle believes "something is not right" concerning Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Manchester United.

The Armenia winger was in fine form for Borussia Dortmund last term and attracted interest from Manchester United, who swooped in to take him to Old Trafford on an initial four-year deal.

But Mkhitaryan has struggled to make an impact under Jose Mourinho and has made just four appearances in the Premier League for the Red Devils.

He was not involved in Manchester United's League Cup win over Manchester City on Wednesday night and Waddle thinks something is wrong with the winger at the club.

And he believes that Mkhitaryan could well be heading for the exit door in the winter transfer window if his situation does not change soon.

"Henrikh Mkhitaryan, what a player at Dortmund but he cannot seem to get into it. Something is not right", Waddle said on BBC Radio 5 live on Wednesday night.

"Whether he is off the pace, the Premier League is different and whether Mourinho has looked and thought he isn't up to it.

"If he is not going to fit in, he could be on his way soon."

Manchester United are next in action this coming Saturday when they welcome Burnley to Old Trafford for a Premier League fixture.

Mourinho's men lost their last league outing 4-0 away at Chelsea and the Portuguese will demand nothing less than all three points against Sean Dyche's side.

Burnley's last match saw them see off Everton 2-1 at Turf Moor.
