Inter Milan have agreed a deal in principle with Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian for a move back to Italy in January after Juventus dropped out of the running, it has been claimed.

The former Torino man has struggled to feature in Jose Mourinho’s team this season and the Manchester United manager has preferred to use Antonio Valencia in his place.

Mourinho has even used youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah at right-back and Darmian has often found himself out of matchday squads, leading to suggestions that his time at Old Trafford is nearing its end.

Inter have been keeping an eye on the defender since the summer and with Juventus said to be out of the picture, the pathway is clear for Nerazzurri to make a move for him in January.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the Serie A giants have already agreed a deal in principle with the player over a move in the January transfer window.
