Leeds United midfielder Matt Grimes has revealed his desire to play as a number 10 and create chances for the team this season.

The 21-year-old midfielder has struggled to establish himself in the team since joining Leeds on loan in the summer from Swansea City, but garnered praise for his performance in the middle of the park against Norwich City on Tuesday night.

He has so far been deployed as a traditional holding midfielder in his limited appearances for Leeds this season, but Grimes admits to harbouring a desire to take the playmaker’s role in the team.

The 21-year-old admits that he is keen to create chances for the team when Leeds are on the ball, but also added that playing the deep lying midfielder’s role is also not a problem for him as he loves to spray passes from a deeper position too.

Grimes told BBC Radio Leeds: “I like to play in the two as a holding, but I also like to play in a 10 as well.

“I think if we get lot of the ball and are really dominating the team, I like to play in the 10 and create chances and make things happen.

“But I obviously like to drop in and get the ball from the back four and spray passes as well.”

After his performance on Tuesday night against Norwich, Grimes will be keen to get more opportunities and become a key player for Leeds this season.

His is on loan from Swansea for the season.
