Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes that Manchester United are currently where the Reds are used to having been at this stage of the season, something which could spell trouble already.

Jurgen Klopp's men sit joint top of the Premier League table after taking 20 points from their opening nine matches. Jose Mourinho's Red Devils by contrast are six points off the pace, in seventh spot on 14 points from the same number of matches.

While the gap is only six points, Aldridge feels it is already significent and explained that the position in which Manchester United currently find themselves is one in which Liverpool regularly were in recent years.

And Aldridge thinks that being two wins behind the league leaders means that the pressure is cranked up a notch for both players and the manager at Old Trafford.

He said on LFC TV: "Well, you've got to play catch up.

"It also adds a little bit more pressure on to your players, and your manager, particularly.

"We've been in that position in years gone by and if you lose in that position then you're getting further and further away and you've got to make that up.

"You've got to go on runs on three, four, five games on the bounce to get you there or there abouts at the top."

Aldridge is pleased that this year it is not Liverpool who are already off the pace.

"In years gone by, except for the one year we did well, we've been in that situation.

"So it's great to be at the top."

Liverpool's fine start to the season has been boosted by already having played Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea away from home in the Premier League.
