Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has stressed that the Scottish Premiership title is not won in October, despite his side's strong form seeing them tipped to comfortable retain the crown.

Nine games into the Premiership season the Bhoys are already looking a powerful outfit, having won eight of their opening nine games to sit seven points clear with a game in hand.

Rodgers is pleased with his side's early season form and had vowed to assess the campaign after ten games. But while Celtic have been impressive, Rodgers feels they should have won the one game they drew.

“I said when I came in that we would assess it after 10 games and we’ve won eight out of nine and drawn the other", Rodgers told his club's official website.

"But we should have won it so we should be sat with nine out of nine won."

The Hoops play second placed Aberdeen this weekend and the manager insists that he will make his assessment post that match irrespective of the result they pick up.

Rodgers went on to praise his players for their performances so far and highlighted the need for them to respect the quality of Aberdeen.

“We’ll go into this game and after this, irrespective of the result, we’ll assess it, but the players are performing at a good level so early on in the season and we respect the qualities of Aberdeen.

“They have good players and play a lot of the game on the counter-attack. They play direct at times and play some good football and they will be hoping they can pick up from their disappointment during the week.

“Our main focus is on ourselves and I think we’ve shown in this early part of the season that if we get our side of the game right then we can be a threat to teams."

The former Liverpool boss stressed though that the title is not won in October and the Bhoys must keep going.

“There’s never been a title given out in October, that’s for sure. It marks the opening period of the season, our 10th league game, and up until this point we’ve made a good start but a lot of the other teams would have something to say about that.

“There’s still a very long way to go. We’re not even a third of the way through but there’s no doubt the team is playing with confidence.”
