Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has explained that although it is frustrating to sit on the bench, he is loving his time at Stamford Bridge.

The Bosnia international, who was signed by Chelsea from their Premier League rivals Stoke City in the summer of 2015, mostly plays second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois.

Begovic has thus far played just three games for Chelsea in the present campaign, with all of them being in the EFL Cup.

The 29-year-old’s latest appearance for the Blues came on Wednesday night as his side lost 2-1 to West Ham United and exited the domestic cup competition.

And Begovic, who admitted that it is frustrating for any player not to play for extended periods of time, however, was pleased to show Chelsea boss Antonio Conte that he can still feature at the highest level, following his performance at the Olympic Stadium in midweek.

“It’s not just the goalkpeeper, if you’re any player it can be frustrating if you are sitting on the bench and not getting involved for an extended period of time”, he told Chelsea TV.

“But at the same time you have to be professional and prepare for a game as if you are going to play.

“Like Wednesday night, it was a good opportunity to play. I was able to show the manager that I was ready to play when needed and can still play at the highest level, which is important for me.

“I love being here, it’s a fantastic club, great team-mates. So, whenever you contribute it means a lot.”

Begovic, whose present contract with Chelsea runs until 2019, has 53 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina to his name.
