Former Celtic and Netherlands striker Pierre van Hooijdonk has slammed Javier Zanetti after Inter Milan sacked Frank de Boer as their coach.

Inter sacked Roberto Mancini with just a few weeks left before the season started and appointed De Boer, but the Dutchman’s tenure didn’t last too long at the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri have made a poor start to the season and are currently eleventh in the league table, with just four wins from their opening eleven league games.

There was speculation that De Boer was on the brink of losing his job, but Inter vice-president Zanetti recently rubbished the rumours, saying that the Dutchman’s future at the club was not under the scanner.

However, De Boer lost his job on Tuesday and former Celtic hitman Van Hooijdonk slammed the Argentine, terming him a joke following his compatriot’s sacking from the San Siro.

The Dutchman took to Twitter and wrote: “Frank de Boer sacked by Inter after just 3 months.

“Zanetti told the media he was definitely staying hahaha.

“What a joke, Mister Inter.”

De Boer previously managed Ajax and was linked with jobs in England in the summer before he joined the Nerazzurri.
