Lille are ready to give up on plans to sign Yoan Gouffran from Newcastle United in the winter transfer window.

The Ligue 1 side have been eyeing adding the former Bordeaux man to their ranks when the January window swings open.

But according to French outlet Buzzsport.fr, Gouffran has made clear he has no intention of leaving St. James' Park mid-season and he is expected to resist bids for his services.

The 30-year-old has turned out on a regular basis for Rafael Benitez's side this season, clocking up 13 appearances in the Championship and two in the EFL Cup, bagging a total of four goals across the two competitions.

Gouffran's stock remains high in France; the forward made 180 appearances for Bordeaux, scoring 40 goals, while he turned out 119 times for Caen, hitting the back of the net on 33 occasions.

Lille are set to be taken over by Luxembourg-based businessman Gerard Lopez before the winter window opens.

He is expected to appoint Luis Campos as the club's sporting director and the deal-maker is already looking at potential signings.

Any move for Gouffran though may need to wait until the summer.
