Rangers manager Mark Warburton has revealed his delight at seeing Lee Wallace performing at international level against England last Friday.

The Rangers captain returned to the Scotland national team for the first time in three years and though the Scots suffered a 3-0 loss to England at Wembley, the defender earned praise for his performance against the Three Lions.

The full-back amalgamated his defensive duties wonderfully with his forays into England’s half and his Rangers manager was delighted at seeing his man perform on the international stage again.

Warburton feels Wallace should earn great credit for his showing and believes it was a signal that the Rangers captain has the ability to compete with the best players at the top level of international football.

The Englishman told Rangers TV, when asked about his thoughts on Wallace’s performance: “Delighted for Lee.

“I thought he used the ball well, he got forward and posed a threat as we knew he can do week-in-week-out for Rangers.

“So I think Lee should be really proud of his performance, it sends out a message about his capability at the highest level.”

It was Wallace’s seventh cap for Scotland, but his last appearance before Friday evening was in a 21-minute cameo against the United States in November 2013.
