Liam Bridcutt is insistent that Leeds United can beat anyone in the Championship ahead of his side’s clash against table toppers Newcastle United this weekend.

Expectations of the Leeds side have risen over the past few weeks as they have defied expectations and pushed their way into the Championship’s top six, the chances of which looked remote in August.

Leeds have been one of the form teams of the Championship over the last ten games and only Newcastle United and Brighton have collected more points during the period.

However, Leeds’ new found confidence will come under serious examination when they take on Championship leaders Newcastle on Sunday, but Bridcutt is confident that the Whites can beat Rafael Benitez’s side.

Despite the quality of Newcastle’s squad, the Leeds captain feels the unpredictable nature of the Championship means no game is a foregone conclusion.

The midfielder told LUTV: “Obviously Newcastle have come down from the Premier League and they have got a squad which is arguably one of the best in the Championship this season.

“They have got a lot of quality players, but like I said in the Championship it doesn’t really matter and it depends on the team on the day.

“We have got that mentality that we can beat any team, when we are at it.”

Newcastle United will encounter a sold out Elland Road when they visit the west Yorkshire side on Sunday.
