Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has opened the door slightly towards a potential exit from the club for Mahmoud Dahoud at some point in the future, if the Germany Under-21 star does not pen a new contract.

The midfielder, whose present contract with Monchengladbach runs until 2018, was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer and it is claimed that the Reds have not lost interest in the 20-year-old.

Monchengladbach’s Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund are also keeping tabs on Dahoud, who has made just 10 appearances in all competitions this season, setting up two goals.

The youngster has been sparingly used by Monchengladbach in the present campaign, with suggestions made it may be due to refusing to sit down and discuss a new deal, though Eberl claims form is the issue.

And the 43-year-old, who admitted that Monchengladbach are yet to open talks with Dahoud about a new deal, insisted that the German team will consider their options if the starlet does not pen a fresh contract.

"It is the club's desire to extend his contract.

"We have not opened talks yet, but that will soon happen”, Eberl was quoted as saying by German magazine Kicker.

"We will have to consider our options if he only has one year left on his contract next year, but that is pure speculation at this stage."

Dahoud, who joined Monchengladbach’s academy from Fortuna Dusseldorf in 2010, has represented Germany up to Under-21 level.
