Roma have been working silently for several weeks to bring in Manchester United winger Memphis Depay in January and not be beaten to his signature by Inter, according to Italian sports daily Corriere dello Sport.

The Dutch international, who has been sparingly used by new Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho in the present campaign, has been heavily linked with a move away from the club during the winter transfer window in search of more playing time.

Everton have been touted as a possible destination for Depay, while Juventus and Inter are also keeping tabs on the 22-year-old.

However, it has been now revealed that Roma too are plotting a move to bring in Depay, who has clocked up just 126 minutes over seven appearances in all competitions for Manchester United this season.

Roma have also been handed a boost in their chase for Depay as the youngster is managed by Sports Entertainment, an agency, whose client list also includes Giallorossi stars Kevin Strootman and Thomas Vermaelen.

The Serie A side are wary of being beaten to the wide-man by rivals Inter and as such have been working quietly behind the scenes on a deal.

Depay, who scored twice in the Netherlands’ 3-1 win over Luxembourg in a World Cup qualifier last week, joined Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015.

He made 45 appearances for the Red Devils last season, scoring seven times and providing six assists.
