Leeds United striker Chris Wood has revealed that Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer was his first football hero and the New Zealander is keen to emulate the Geordie’s feats in English football.

Wood has been Leeds’ top goalscorer this season and his goals have played a key role in helping his side to shake off a slow start to the campaign and climb up the league table in recent weeks.




Ahead of Leeds’ clash against Newcastle United at Elland Road on Sunday, the Whites striker has revealed that it is a Magpies legend who was his childhood hero in football.

Wood conceded that former Newcastle United and England captain Shearer was his idol growing up and the New Zealander admits that emulating the legendary forward’s goalscoring feats in English football remains a dream for him.
 


When asked about his first football hero, Wood told LUTV: “Alan Shearer.

“He was just a natural goalscorer and that’s something I would love to implement.

“He got a great record in the English leagues and that’s something I'd like to strive for as long as I can.”

Shearer remains the top scorer in the Premier League era with 260 goals and even won the league title with Blackburn Rovers.

He also earned 63 caps for England and scored 30 international goals.
