Former Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman thinks Philippe Coutinho is not looking to quit the Reds, despite speculation that Barcelona are actively tracking the Brazilian.

The 24-year-old, who scored for Brazil in their 3-0 win over Argentina in a World Cup qualifier during the international break, has been in superb form this season.

Coutinho has played a vital role in helping Liverpool sit atop the Premier League table at the moment, with the attacking midfielder netting six times and providing as many assists in 13 appearances in all competitions in the ongoing campaign.

The Brazilian’s tremendous displays have attracted the interest of Barcelona, who have been linked with making a move for him in the summer.

However, Spackman feels Coutinho is not considering leaving Liverpool at the moment as he is at the top of his game, with the Reds also being firmly in the title race.

“I don’t think he’s agitated to leave, I think he knows he’s in a really good moment himself and Liverpool are in a brilliant moment itself”, Spackman said on LFC TV, ahead of the Reds' draw at Southampton.

“I think the ambition of all the group of players, the manager and everybody associated with the club is to try and win the Premier League title this year.

“They are in a good position and he’s playing at the top of his game.

"Okay, it might be Barcelona who having a look at you, it’s fantastic to have big clubs looking at you, but you want to do it for the big club you’re at.

“I think the prospects here, with the youthfulness within the squad, he must look and say, ‘yes, I’m at the right club at the right time and I want to win things here.’”

Coutinho, who joined Liverpool from Inter Milan in January 2013, is contracted with the Merseyside giants until 2020.
