Rangers centre-back Clint Hill has revealed that Ryan Nelsen is the best defender he has ever had the privilege of playing alongside, dubbing the New Zealander "outstanding".

Hill joined Rangers on a free transfer from Queens Park Rangers in the summer after spending six seasons at Loftus Road.

At QPR, the 38-year-old played alongside Nelsen, who was snapped up by the Hoops after a disappointing spell at Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite being in the twilight of his career and playing just half a season at QPR before being tempted to Toronto FC, Hill considers the ex-New Zealand international the best defender he has played with.

“I’m going to go with Ryan Nelson”, he told Rangers TV, when asked to name the best defender he has played alongside.

“I thought he was outstanding.

"He was an old player when he came in [at QPR], probably 35-36, but he was outstanding.”

Hill then went on to reveal that Adel Taarabt is the best player he has played alongside.

The Morocco international, who currently plays at Benfica, has thus far flattered to deceive despite showing glimpses of his class throughout his career.

“[The best I’ve] played with, for the one year that I’ve seen him at his best, was Adel Taarabt”, he replied.

Taarabt spent two loan spells at QPR during his time at Spurs before joining the club permanently in 2010.

He scored 34 goals and provided 44 assists for QPR in 164 games before leaving for Benfica in the summer of 2015.
