Celtic legend Tom Boyd believes that Hoops fans want to see Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in action at Paradise on Wednesday, even though it would boost Barcelona.

Barcelona, who will take on Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday, were without Messi and Suarez for their La Liga clash against Malaga at the weekend, with the match ending in a goalless draw.

The duo are not fully fit and it remains to be seen if they play against Celtic, who are yet to win a Champions League group stage game this season.

While Messi has scored 16 goals in 14 appearances in all competitions this season, in addition to providing seven assists, Suarez has played 16 times in the present campaign, netting 11 times and setting up six goals.

Although the pair not featuring at Paradise would be good news for Celtic, Boyd believes the Bhoys supporters always want to see the best players playing at Parkhead.

“He [Messi] was missing, I think Suarez was missing at the weekend so I don’t know if both of them will be fit”, Boyd told Celtic TV.

“But our supporters like to see these kind of players, they want to see the best players playing here at Paradise.

“Barcelona players have raved about the atmosphere, so hopefully we will have another very memorable night in the Champions League.”

Barcelona thrashed Celtic 7-0 in the corresponding fixture at the Camp Nou in September.
