Leeds United winger Kemar Roofe has revealed that he thought his effort would go into the back of the net after hitting the post during his side’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes at Anfield, Leeds had the best opportunity to break the deadlock early on in the second half when Roofe’s curling shot hit the post before being cleared away by Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva.

And Roofe, who admitted that he was aware that his effort was heading towards the post, however, felt the ball would drop into the back of the net after ricocheting off the woodwork.

“I knew it was going to hit the post”, he said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“But I thought it would hit the post and go in.”

It was Leeds’ only second loss in their last eight outings in all competitions, and Roofe thinks the hard work his side are putting in on the training ground is  being reflected through their performances.

“We keep running every game”, he continued.

“In training as well, we are at it 100 per cent. We are getting used to each other and building that confidence.

“And I think we are showing it now.”

Leeds are currently fifth in the Championship table with 29 points from 18 games.
