Leeds United head coach Garry Monk admits that he can have little complaint over his side’s performance in their 2-0 loss to Liverpool last night.

The Yorkshire giants went toe-to-toe with the Reds at Anfield in the EFL Cup quarter-final and had chances to score, which taking would have put Liverpool under real pressire.

However, Divock Origi gave Liverpool the lead in the 75th minute and Ben Woodburn became the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history as he put the game beyond Leeds’ reach with nine minutes left on the clock.

Monk feels the result was unfair as his side stuck to their game plan for most of the encounter, but admits that they could have been more clinical in front of goal.

However, he feels he can have little to complain to his players about in terms of their performances and believes on another night the result could have been different.

The 37-year-old said on BBC Radio Leeds: “Obviously disappointed with the result; to be honest the result was a bit unfair.

“We had to tweak tactically, we had to change our game plan and we followed it to a T.

"We looked excellent on the break, we had the best chances out of the two teams.

“The only thing that was lacking was a bit of composure and a bit of unluckiness as well.

"Had we got the first goal, it would have given us that extra lift, motivation and extra energy to the players, but to be honest I can’t have any complaints.

“Any complaint could be the result and on another night we probably would have had it different.”

Leeds will look to carry the confidence from last night’s performance into the weekend when they host Aston Villa at Elland Road.
