Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur are “worried” about Erik Lamela’s injury, with the manager revealing that it is still unknown when his compatriot will return to action.

The Argentina international has been sidelined with a hip injury since late October, thereby missing Spurs’ last six outings in all competitions.

And Pochettino, who confirmed that Lamela is yet to meet his recovery targets, insisted that the winger still needs further time to be fully fit.

However, the 44-year-old was unable to provide a return date for Lamela as he went on to acknowledge that Tottenham are “worried” about the former Roma man’s injury.

“It’s difficult to explain because I am not a doctor but we are a little bit worried about his situation because his evolution is not in the way that we expect”, he said in his pre-Swansea City press conference on Thursday.

“I am not a specialist, I am a coach but it’s true that his evolution is not how we expect and we need to give more time to recover.

“It’s a hip problem. I cannot say when he will be back.”

Lamela, who joined Tottenham from Roma in the summer of 2013, has scored twice and set up seven goals in 14 appearances in all competitions this season.

In total, he has turned out 121 times for the north London outfit, scoring 19 goals and providing 31 assists.
