Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is pleased to see Anthony Martial working hard and much happier following his display against West Ham on Wednesday night.

The Frenchman was the club’s top goalscorer last season, but has been in lacklustre form this term, which forced the Manchester United manager to criticise his displays recently.

However, the Frenchman looked in much better rhythm against the Hammers as he scored two goals and helped his side to a 4-1 win in the EFL Cup quarter-final clash at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Mourinho admits that the Frenchman has been putting in the hard yards in recent days and feels the goals have helped the forward to feel more at ease with himself after a poor start to his season.

The Manchester United boss said in a press conference, when asked about Martial: "He is working harder than before to be honest.

"When you score goals I think it helps for happiness to be back.

“As an attacking player you can play very, very well, but if there are no goals then the happiness is not there."

The Frenchman has netted four goals in 14 appearances this season in all competitions thus far.
