Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has hailed the character shown by his team to come from behind to beat Manchester City 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The Pensioners continued with their winning momentum, stretching their lead at the top of the table to three points, and having now won eight league games on the bounce.

The Citizens enjoyed the lion's share of possession for most of the course of the match, going 1-0 up in the 45th minute. They also had the maximum number of attempts on goal throughout the course of the match.

However, crucial misses from Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero led to the downfall of Pep Guardiola's team as Diego Costa equalised in the 60th minute, with substitute Willian putting Chelsea 2-1 up and Eden Hazard putting the finishing touches to pile misery on the home side.

Giving his post-match reaction, the Chelsea manager said that it was a tough game and the way his side showed character was a further step on their growing curve.

"I think today was very tough and the game was open until the end.

"There were lots of chances for both teams to score", Conte said on Sky Sports after the match.

"I saw lots of character from my team and that's very important to grow.

"But we must continue to work and improve."

Next up for Chelsea is a visit to Stramford Bridge from West Brom.
