Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan believes that Souleymane Doukara's good form for the Whites is due to being surrounded by different players.

Doukara struggled to establish himself in the side following his arrival in the summer of 2014 from Italian outfit Catania and appeared set to be on the way out when Garry Monk took over as head coach last summer.

Indeed, Doukara started life firmly on the fringes under Monk and was forced to make do with Under-23 football at the beginning of the season.

But he worked hard in training and convinced Monk to hand him an opportunity to impress, from which he has not looked back.

He started in Saturday's 2-0 win over Aston Villa and provided the cross for Kemar Roofe to head Leeds in front in the game at Elland Road.

Whelan was watching on and believes Doukara has been transformed by playing with a different group of players.

He said on BBC Radio Leeds: "Doukara's bought into others' attitudes.

"If we had some of the players last season still here, maybe he'd still be in that camp.

"But he's singing from the same hymn sheet as the winners now, and we have a squad where there are no ringleaders, where everyone works for the good of the team."

Doukara will be hoping to retain his spot in the starting line-up for Leeds' visit to Brighton this coming Friday.
