Tom Boyd thinks the stiff competition within the Celtic squad is one of the reasons behind the Hoops' superb domestic form this season.

Brendan Rodgers’ team, who will end their European campaign with an away Champions League fixture against Manchester City later in the day, are yet to lose a domestic game in the present campaign.

Celtic will play a total of eight Scottish Premiership fixtures in December, with the Bhoys starting the month on a winning note by beating Motherwell 4-3 at the weekend.

And Boyd, who feels Rodgers will try to fully utilise his squad during the busy period, however, admitted that the players who are in the starting eleven deserve to be there.

But the former defender was quick to add that players know their place in the starting eleven will be under threat if they rest on their laurels, thereby increasing the competition in the squad, which in turn is reflected through Celtic’s performances.

“The manager will try to make sure that everybody get their fair share”, Boyd told Celtic TV.

“But how can you not play the same players because of the form they are in.

“Erik Sviatchenko is still to come in, Scott Sinclair is out – guys, who probably consider themselves more first choice players.

“Everybody seems to be happy at the moment because we are winning and you want to keep that mentality going.

“Everybody knows that they have to keep their level up, they have to make sure that they don’t drop off or somebody else will come in and take their place.

“I think that that’s one of the reasons why we are playing so good.”

Following tonight’s clash with Manchester City, Celtic will face Partick Thistle on Friday.
