Celtic legend Tom Boyd has insisted that the Bhoys are not solely dependent on Moussa Dembele for goals after the striker failed to find the back of the net in his side’s 4-3 win over Motherwell at the weekend.

The Frenchman, who joined Celtic from Fulham in the summer, has been in sparkling form in front of goal for his new employers.

Dembele is currently Celtic’s top goalscorer this season, with 17 strikes in all competitions to his name.

And Boyd explained that although it was surprising to see Dembele not scoring against Motherwell, despite Celtic pumping in four goals at Fir Park, he feels it showed that the Scottish champions do not solely rely on the 20-year-old for goals.

However, the former defender was quick to add that he is confident about Dembele soon getting his name back on the scoresheet.

“The biggest surprise was our top goalscorer Moussa Dembele’s name was not on the scoresheet”, he said on Celtic TV.

“It was strange. The room or the lack of room he had inside the box because there were so many defenders.

“Moussa will now rely on his team-mates for goals, and his team-mates are doing that for him.

“You do want your goals to get spread, yes you would like a point-man like we had last season with Leigh Griffiths. But if he was injured, we probably would have struggled.

“But now our goals are spread. With so many options we are not solely dependent on Moussa.

“But he will come back, there is no doubt about that. It’s just that at this moment of time, he seems to be getting less room inside the box.

“It’s always difficult away from home, once we get back here at Celtic Park, he should have a little bit more space.”

Liverpool and RB Leipzig have been linked with making a move for Dembele, whose present contract with Celtic runs until 2020.
