Switzerland winger Xherdan Shaqiri has brushed aside being asked whether he could stay at Stoke City for the rest of his career, insisting that he is still keen to play in the Champions League once again.

The Swiss international has been one of the most important players for the Potters since he joined the club from Inter Milan last year and has again been integral for them this season.

A creative hub for his team, most of Stoke’s attacking play goes through Shaqiri as Mark Hughes has build a team around the winger’s creative instincts, but it seems the Swiss star is unwilling to commit to the club for the remainder of his career.

While the winger admits that at this point in his career he is feeling comfortable in England and believes Stoke are a good team with a good manager, he conceded that he would like to play in the Champions League again at some point in the future.

Shaqiri, who played in the Champions League with Basel and Bayern Munich, told Blick: “At 25, it would be silly to say that I want to end my career at Stoke.

“At the moment I am feeling very comfortable and I have scored three goals, which is as many I scored in the whole of last season.

“Stoke are a super team with a super coach and are currently 9th in the Premier League table, but of course in the near future I would again like to play in the Champions League.”

His current contract with Stoke runs until 2020.
