Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was impressed by Granit Xhaka’s performance last night and feels Switzerland star has more to add to his game in the future.

Wenger splashed out big money to sign the midfielder from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer, but Xhaka is yet to become a nailed down starter at Arsenal.

Ahead of last night’s clash against FC Basel, the midfielder had started just two of the five Champions League games this season, but was in the starting eleven in Switzerland.

And the midfielder played out a commanding performance in Arsenal’s 4-1 win over the Swiss giants and helped his side to finish top of their Champions League group.

Wenger was delighted with the performance of his big summer signing and believes Xhaka could still improve by adding more to his game in the future.

The Frenchman told L’Equipe: “I loved Xhaka's performance on his return to the team.

“He has grown defensively and if he keeps adding more to his game, it will have a new dimension.”

For the moment Wenger wants his side to concentrate on the Premier League as the Champions League won’t return to their fixture list before late-February.

“We are in December, the next round will be played in February-March, and so we will have to see what kind of form we’ll be in.

“For now let’s focus on the Premier League.”
