AC Milan have been warned they can forget about qualifying for next season's Champions League if they cash in on Arsenal target Carlos Bacca next month.

Bacca, who rejected a switch to West Ham in the summer transfer window despite the Hammers agreeing a fee with AC Milan, has been linked with Arsenal of late.

Arsene Wenger has been claimed to be eyeing up a £20m swoop to take the Colombia international to the Emirates Stadium.

But for former AC Milan midfielder Stefano Cuoghi, the Rossoneri need to keep hold of Bacca if they want a top three finish in Serie A. And the 57-year-old says that the club should look to add another midfielder to the ranks in the winter window.

"If Milan want to compete for the top three positions, they cannot think of only having [Gianluca] Lapadula in attack", Cuoghi told Tutto Mercato.

"I personally would not sell him [Bacca].

"Maybe try to take an extra midfielder as [Riccardo] Montolivo is out and [Manuel] Locatelli is still too young and cannot dominate the league by himself in such an important role."

AC Milan were willing to cash in on Bacca in the summer and could be interested in doing business again in the winter window, despite Cuoghi's warning.

The Rossoneri are currently third in Serie A, four points clear of fourth placed Lazio and four points off leaders Juventus.
