Rangers defender Danny Wilson believes a good festive period would stand his side in good stead for the second half of the season.

While the Gers are second in the Premiership table, Celtic’s lead at the top of the standings already seems insurmountable and Mark Warburton’s men are not expected to cut down the difference any time soon.

Rangers have put in some good performances, but their season has been marred by inconsistency and the club are now just hoping for European qualification at the end of the campaign.

The Gers got an important win over Aberdeen at the weekend after a poor performance against Hearts last week and Wilson has stressed the importance of having a good festive period for his side.

And he is hopeful that the win over the Dons was a positive way to start a crucial juncture of the season for Rangers.

The defender said on the Rangers Podcast: “People say Christmas is a very important part of the season that’s because there are too many games.

“We have got some big ones coming up in there and hopefully the win against Aberdeen in the week has set us on a winning path going forward.

“And hopefully Christmas period will be a successful time for us.”
