Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij is ready to join Manchester United next summer, according to Italian daily Il Messaggero, after knocking back the Rome giants' attempts to agree a new contract.

The Netherlands international, who was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea during the summer transfer window, has struggled with injures in the present campaign.

De Vrij’s present contract with Lazio runs until 2018 and the Serie A outfit have made three failed attempts to tie down the centre-back to a new deal.

The Dutchman, who was previously linked with Manchester United when Louis van Gaal was in charge of the Red Devils, has thus far made just eight league appearances for Lazio in the 2016/17 campaign.

It has been suggested that Manchester United could again be interested in De Vrij and the defender could accept a move to England in the summer, with Lazio believed to be demanding a fee of around €35m.
