Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko believes that his central defensive partnership with Jozo Simunovic is nowhere near the finished article.

Kolo Toure has been used sparingly by new Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers since he picked up an injury in mid-September.

In the absence of Toure, Simunovic was drafted into the starting line-up and he formed a solid partnership with Sviatchenko at the heart of Celtic’s defence.

The pair have thus far played 12 games in all competitions in the present campaign, helping the Scottish champions to keep a hugely impressive seven clean sheets.

However, Sviatchenko, who explained that he relishes playing with Simunovic, feels his partnership with the Croatian needs to be developed further.

“I enjoy it very much, but it’s still a process”, he said in a press conference on Wednesday, when asked about his partnership with Simunovic.

“We are both fairly young players still, although I have played a lot of games at the highest level and Jozo as well.

“It’s still a new partnership and small things need to be developed all the time.

“Even though the partnership has been good, we still need to develop.

"That’s what Jozo is good about and I am also focusing about.”

Sviatchenko, who joined Celtic from FC Midtjylland during the last winter transfer window, has thus far made 22 appearances in all competitions this season.

On the other hand, Simunovic has featured 12 times for the Bhoys in the present campaign and came close to joining Torino in the summer transfer window.
